This dining room has 12 inch wide stripes, in a pattern of eggshell and satin finish paints of the same color. The satin stripe looks lighter because of the light reflecting from the window and chandelier. The lighting makes this technique work. More pronounced effects are possible using paints of greater sheen contrasts or a slight color adjustment on the alternating stripe.
