Paint Colors to Match Wood Cabinets, Floors, Beams and Paneling
How to find a paint color to match the wood grain of cabinets, beams, floors or paneling.
Is a room dominated by a wood grain on the floor, cabinets, paneling or beams? And you would like to complement the wood with a paint color. Look for a prevaling color or shade in the wood and match a paint color to it. Wood grain will often have shades of yellow, red, brown, gold, orange or more. There will usually be one color among many that will be the strongest candidate. If you see two or more paint colors one of them could be used on the ceiling or to paint one wall an accent color and the other paint color used as the primary color of the room.
These two colors from Benjamin Moore® are just some of the endless possibilities in the search for paint colors to match, complement and bring out the rich tones and shades of brown and gold found in wood grain. Look at this as an opportunity to use a color you may not have thought of at first rather than the wood grain limiting your choices. Often the most pleasing colors are those in between colors that are not just gold but brownish gold, not just yellow but yellow with an orange tint or red with a hint of brown in them.
If the wood grain of cabinets is dark and seems to overwhelm the room think about putting a paint color other than white on the ceiling to reduce the contrast with the grain color of the wood cabinets. A light to medium shade of gold or tan will bring interest to the ceiling and away from the cabinets. Putting a very light color (such as Benjamin Moore's Muslin seen below) on painted windows, doors and trim will also lessen the dominance of the dark cabinets.
